Days of Our Lives Recap: Rafe Pushes EJ to Reopen Gabi’s Case

On today’s Days of Our Lives recap:
The Place Formerly Known as Shin Boarding House: Rafe arrives and asks if Ava is up to speed on the black book. She indicates she knows Gil’s fingerprints were on the book and the blood was Li’s. He wonders what all of this information could possibly mean. Rafe thinks she might know something as she’s the only one currently in Salem who was in the apartment with both Gil and Li. Ava swears she knows nothing more than he does and needs to get back to work.
Rafe pushes the conversation forward and says it appears Gil stabbed Li, but why? Ava, again, says she doesn’t know anything about what may have happened. Rafe pushes and Ava considers getting a lawyer (why would you ever answer his questions without a lawyer?). He pushes forward saying Ava used to run the Vitali drug ring and thinks Clyde may be using her to help him. He doesn’t understand why Stefan would take the blame for her. Rafe wonders if Stefan was cheating on Gabi with her. He begs her to help him make sense of this mess. Ava assures Rafe that Stefan only has eyes for Gabi.
Rafe thinks Ava was Gil’s actual target and needs the whole story to get Gabi out of prison. Ava says she had no relationship with Gil. He was always hitting on her and doesn’t understand why he doesn’t get that he was trying to find a way to sexually assault her. Ava flashes back to the night she killed Gil and reminds Rafe she offed him in self-defense. She says she’s still haunted by the events of that evening. Ava can’t stomach the idea that Li may have been killed because of her. Tearing up, Ava says she doesn’t know anything. Rafe accepts her answer for now but says he will continue to investigate.
The Spectator: Eric arrives to find Thomas hanging out. He’s there for “take your kid to work day.” He says he wants to be a reporter, just like his mother. Just then, Chad walks in and Thomas heads out.
Eric and Chad discuss how amazing Abigail was and how much she’s missed. They shift topics to the piece on Salem’s unhoused. Chad wonders how working with Nicole is going just as she arrives. Chad is about to exit when Nicole pulls out a notebook. She says she found it that morning in what appeared to be a drawer with a false bottom. Chad thumbs threw it and recognizes Abigail’s handwriting. The last entry was the week before she died.
Chad finds information about criminal statistics and trends and thinks Abigail must have been working on a story. He thinks Jack may know something and gives him a call (can we PLEASE get Jack and Jennifer Rose back on our screens?).
DiMera Mansion – Living Room: EJ arrives and is surprised to find Nicole as he thought she was at work. She says Holly is still avoiding her after their Mother’s Day blowup. They review Holly’s custody history as she thinks it could relate to her current issues. She wonders if things would be different if she had raised Holly from her first day. She was hoping to do that very thing with their baby.

Nicole wonders if EJ anticipated all this drama when they got together. EJ says, compared to Samantha Gene, their life together is a cake walk. They push forward and Nicole says she’ll be working late tonight and EJ says he’ll look out for Holly. He asks if she might be willing to attend an upcoming City Hall fundraiser. Nicole agrees and thinks maybe she’ll be able to pick up some information for her article on Salem’s unhoused. With that, Nicole exits, and EJ looks sick to his stomach.
As EJ sips on a drink, Stefan and Kristen enter. The siblings get snarky and EJ makes mention about the inevitability of the board voting him in at the next meeting.
The Bistro: Stefan and Kristen are trying to figure out who killed Li so they can bring Gabi home. She hopes they can reunite but wants her brother to keep his “bitch” wife away from her. They move along to discuss installing her as CEO of DiMera. All of a sudden, Stefan decides he’s going to EJ to compel him to re-open Gabi’s case. Kristen stops him and says they need to wait on Rafe and what he finds out from Ava.
Park: Sloan walks up on a very drunk Leo. She lights into him for blowing up the situation with Jude. He says he only told EJ and kept his promise not to tell Eric. They go back and forth and Leo apologizes as he cares about Jude. Sloan loses her patience as Leo says he thinks Jude belongs with his biological mother. Sloan says Nicole will never get her hands on Jude. Their voices get louder as they discuss the situation IN A PUBLIC PLACE! Leo says he’s having a hard time living with himself and can’t understand how she’s sleeping at night. Sloan says guilt is a waste of time and has come to terms with what she did. She suggests Leo do the same. She suggests he find a way to stay silent or she’ll make sure she cuts off his EJ funded gravy train.

Endings
Ava arrives back in her room and calls Harris. She tells him she’s not feeling well and needs to talk to him. She wonders aloud how she’ll ever tell Wendy she may be responsible for Li’s death.
Chad hangs up with Jack and tells Nicole and Eric that Abigail was working on a “heavy” story prior to her death. Jack doesn’t know the details but think is it must’ve been about Salem’s drug ring. He thinks she was on to Clyde and wonders if he knew about it.
Rafe arrives at the mansion and tells the DiMera siblings there is new evidence indicating Gabi is innocent. EJ isn’t impressed saying the evidence means nothing. He says he is the D.A. and his decision is final.
